Rules for the 2010 Durham Indoor Rowing Trials

CHECK-IN
Check-in will open on race day at 7:30 a.m. The first race begins at 8:30 a.m. Please check in at least 30 minutes before your event. If you registered before March 14, you will receive your t-shirt at check-in. If you registered after March 14, you may receive your t-shirt or you may receive a voucher if we don't have a shirt in the appropriate size. All race participants will, at some point, receive their shirts.

SAME-DAY REGISTRATION
We will allow same-day registration for events if there is room (first come, first served). Athletes who have not already registered for another D.I.R.T. event will pay an additional late fee of $5. Athletes who are already registered for another D.I.R.T. event may add an event at no additional cost.

EVENT START TIMES
No event will begin earlier than the time indicated on the preliminary schedule (3/17/2010). It may be necessary to add additional flights, in which case events may start later. However, event organizers intend to follow the preliminary schedule as closely as possible. The official time will be the time displayed on the large digital clock on the back wall of the CrossFit gym.

EQUIPMENT FAILURE
Equipment failure means a loss of recording or display, a broken seat, footstrap, chain or flywheel malfunction. If the failure occurs within the first 10 seconds of an event, the event will be re-rowed by all athletes in that flight. If a competitor experiences an equipment failure after that time, all other athletes must continue to race. The individual with the failure may row in a later flight and his/her time will be used to place in the individual in the event.

TIMING
All event timing will be electronically monitored and recorded. Up to 8 athletes may be included in each event or flight. All event times will be manually recorded as well, in case of timing equipment failure. Protests must be made immediately upon the finish of the event.

COACHING
During any event, only one coach/cox/second per athlete will be allowed in the race area. Once the event has begun, only the athlete may make adjustments to the machine. Once the event has begun, the damper setting cannot be changed.

RESULTS
Event results will be posted promptly. Overall finishes for events with multiple flights will be based on times.

AWARDS
Medals will be awarded to the top three female finishers and the top three male finishers in each of the following events and age groups:

  • 2000m (under 15, 15-18, 19-25, 26-39, 40+)
  • 1000m (21-39, 40+)
  • 500m (under 15, 15-18, 19-25, 26-39, 40+)
  • 30 minutes (under 15, 15-18, 19-25, 26-39, 40+)

All disputes concerning these rules and other protests will be decided by D.I.R.T. organizers, whose decisions are binding.

Durham Indoor Rowing Trials (D.I.R.T.)

Raleigh Rowing Center and CrossFit Durham invite you to participate in the inaugural Durham Indoor Rowing Trials (D.I.R.T.) on March 20, 2010! This event promises to be a fun morning for participants, with lots of events to choose from, race t-shirts for every participant, medals for top finishers, and snacks. Medals will be awarded to the top three men and top three women in each event in the following age categories: under 14, 15-18, 19-25, 26-39, and 40+. Thirty dollars lets you register for as many events as you dare.

  • 2000 meters. This is the premiere indoor racing distance. It's what the big dogs do at C.R.A.S.H.-B.s and it's a true test of physical fitness and mental toughness.
  • 1000 meters. This is the masters outdoor sprint distance and it's available only to masters-age participants (21+). Yes, 21 makes you a master rower!
  • 500 meters. If you like to blow it out at the beginning, this is the event for you. Don't hold back!
  • 30 minutes. This is for those endurance athletes who can pace themselves and sustain some serious effort for a long time. Whoever rows the most meters in 30 minutes wins.

Online registration will be officially open through March 14. Athletes may register online after March 14, but but we cannot guarantee that you will receive your t-shirt on the day of the event (though you will eventually get one) or that you will be scheduled to race at the same time as other athletes in your age group. Same-day registration is also available, subject to the same caveats and a $5 late fee.

Proceeds will benefit Raleigh Rowing Center, a nonprofit rowing club for masters rowers, and Triangle Rowing Club, a nonprofit rowing club for junior rowers.

7:30 am - Check in begins. Ergs will be available for warm ups.
8:30 am - First event begins.
See schedule for details.

Please note: This is a fundraiser, so we will not offer refunds for this event.
