2012 DIRT Rules and Information

CHECK-IN
Check-in will open on race day at 8:00 a.m. The first race begins at 9:00 a.m. Please check in at least 30 minutes before your event. If you registered on or before February 19, you will receive your t-shirt at check-in in the size you requested. If you registered on or after February 20, we have ordered a few extras so you might receive your t-shirt at check-in. If we do not have a t-shirt in your size, we will order a t-shirt for you and you may pick it up from CrossFit Durham at a later date.

SAME-DAY REGISTRATION
We will allow same-day registration for events if there is room (first come, first served).

EVENT START TIMES
Event organizers intend to follow the preliminary schedule as closely as possible. However, adjustments may be necessary between the day the preliminary schedule is sent out and the day of the event. No event (2000m, 1000m, 30 min, 500m) will begin earlier than the time indicated for that event on the preliminary schedule. The official time will be the time displayed on the large digital clock on the back wall of the CrossFit gym.

EQUIPMENT FAILURE
Equipment failure means a loss of recording or display, a broken seat, footstrap, chain or flywheel malfunction. If the failure occurs within the first 10 seconds of an event, the event will be re-rowed by all athletes in that heat. If a competitor experiences an equipment failure after that time, all other athletes must continue to race. The individual with the failure may row in a later flight and his/her time will be used to place in the individual in the event.

TIMING
All event timing will be electronically monitored and recorded. Up to 12 athletes may be included in each event or flight. All event times will be manually recorded as well, in case of timing equipment failure. Protests must be made immediately upon the finish of the event.

COACHING
During any event, only one coach/cox/second per athlete will be allowed in the race area.

MACHINE ADJUSTMENTS
You may use any damper setting you choose. However, once the event has begun, the damper setting cannot be changed. Once the event has begun, only the athlete may make other adjustments to the machine.

RESULTS
Event results will be posted as promptly as possible. Overall finishes for events with multiple heats will be based on times.

AWARDS
Medals will be awarded to the top three female finishers and the top three male finishers in each of the following events and age groups:
• 2000m (under 16, 16-18jr, 18c-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79)
• 1000m (21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79)
• 500m (under 16, 16-18jr, 18c-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79)

DIRT 2012 Sat, Feb 25th

Mark your calendars! The 3rd annual Durham Indoor Rowing Trials (DIRT) will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the Cross Fit Durham. Registration will be open from Jan 1st to Feb 15th.

DIRT 2011: Results

Final results of the 2011 Durham Indoor Rowing Trials are available here. There is an Excel file (.xls) that includes all of the information, as well as PDFs of the results from each event. Both the Excel file and the PDFs are sorted in three different ways: (1) Age Category, (2) Time/Distance, (3) Handicapped Time. The Age Category sheets show the finish order within each age division and gender. The Time/Distance sheets show the overall list of times or distances, across all ages and genders. The Handicapped Time sheets show the overall list of times after a handicap for rowers older than 26 was applied. There is no Handicapped Time sheet for the 30 minute event.

The medals were awarded based on Age Categories, but people are usually curious about how their times stacked up against all of the other times, which is why the Time/Distance sheets exist. Many masters competitors were curious about how their handicapped times would stack up against all the other times, which is why the Handicapped Time sheets exist. The handicap formula applied is explained here.
